New England Farmhouse for Sale in Lubec, ME

221 County Road, Lubec, Maine 04652 | Washington County

Details

Possibilities galore for bringing back to life this grand New England farmhouse. Once home to an art and antique gallery, you will find remnants of creative art decor within the garage and glassed-in porch. A decorative sign still stands in the front yard, proudly displaying "Ridge House," the name of the art gallery. Its prominent location on the main road along the “ridge” is near other local businesses and makes it a great location for a home business. The main farmhouse has large rooms, high ceilings, wood floors, and an appealing kitchen. Some interior walls have had moisture damage causing mold. The apartment located in the Ell section of the farmhouse, has a separate entrance and plenty of space for a seasonal rental or as a long-term lease. Although there have been interior updates to the home over the years, the home’s exterior, some interior walls and ceilings, and the home’s mechanics need attention to make this aging old house a comfortable and reliable home.

Lubec is the most Easterly town in the U.S., located in Washington County, Maine. The area has more shoreline than any other town along Maine’s coast. Lubec village is quiet and picturesque. The candy-striped West Quoddy Head Lighthouse and State Park are located in South Lubec and boast hiking trails and a local history museum. It is at the gateway to the Bay of Fundy. New Brunswick, Canada, is across the bridge to Campobello Island, home of Roosevelt’s International park, picturesque Head Harbor Lighthouse and Herring Cove Provincial Park. You can also enter New Brunswick through the Calais border crossing from which you can access many Canadian destinations. Machias is the county seat. It is home to the Campus of the University of Maine at Machias, the Downeast Community Hospital, and many other amenities. As you drive along the rural roads of Eastern Washington county you will see many acres of commercial blueberry land. These fields are blue with ripe berries in August and fiery red in the fall.

Recreation opportunities abound for the outdoor enthusiast. There is beachcombing along the many public beaches, hiking on the many local trails, and boating of all kinds are popular along the many coves and inlets and rugged coastline. There are many acres of preserved lands, state parks within minutes, the Bold Coast Trail system, and the 127-mile Sunrise Trail for hiking, biking, horseback riding, and 4-wheeling to explore. Lubec and the surrounding area offer many opportunities for whale watching trips, and ferries are available to and from Campobello Island, Deer Isle, and Grand Manan Island. Inland you will find many freshwater lakes in the county that can be accessed for boating, fishing, and swimming.

Lubec is the home of Summer Keys, a music program that performs weekly summer concerts and music lessons. There is a Saturday farmers market that showcases locally made organic, artisan produce and products. There are many artists who also call Lubec home and get their inspiration from the coastal beauty. Lubec hosts an annual international marathon that attracts hundreds of runners to the area each June. The scenic, newly created Cobscook Shores trails and parks are scattered throughout the inland shoreline of Lubec and the surrounding area offering walking, hiking, and water trails for kayaking and canoeing. Eastport is across the bay with ferry service in the summer months to and from Lubec. It is also an artist hub with many exhibits and concerts during the summer months.
